Who are we?
North and East Yorkshire Ecological Data Centre (NEYEDC) is the Local Environmental Records Centre (LERC) for North and East Yorkshire, including the cities of York and Hull, the North York Moors and Yorkshire Dales National Parks and the Nidderdale and Howardian Hills Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. NEYEDC is an independent Local Environmental Records Centre, governed by the Yorkshire and Humber Ecological Data Trust, a registered charity. We are an active and founder member of the Association of Local Environmental Records Centres and have been accredited since 2013.

We collate, manage and analyse raw data about species, sites and habitats from a large variety of sources. This information is incorporated into NEYEDC’s evidence base, which is used by planning authorities, developers and conservation bodies to inform decisions about land management. We also work closely with local naturalists and societies, professional ecologists, statutory bodies and academic institutions to facilitate legitimate research and support projects in the fields of conservation and sustainable development.

NEYEDC is proud to be a member of the Yorkshire Naturalists’ Union, one of the longest-established natural history organisations in the UK, and hosts its registered office and reference library which is available for access by their members. Along with the other LERCs in Yorkshire we are part of the Yorkshire Environmental Data Network, working together to provide data services at a regional scale. At a National level we are members of the National Forum for Biological Recording and the National Biodiversity Network.

What do we provide?
Our professional ecological data search service provides International, National and Local site boundaries, habitat and species information to inform Planning Applications, Environmental Impact Assessments, Strategic Environmental Assessments, Management Plans, Farm Environment Plans and Woodland Creation Schemes. We work in partnership with our neighbouring LERCs to provide a seamless cross-boundary service for Ecological Data Searches which extend into Doncaster and West Yorkshire.
